Following persistent complaints from electricity consumers in Enugu State, particularly Band A customers, regarding the drastically reduced hours of supply, the Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission (The Commission) conducted a technical and safety audit of major injection substations operated by MainPower Electricity Distribution Ltd (MainPower).

On March 23, 2026, Mainpower Electricity Distribution Commission launched the Landmark Quick Response Service (QRS) at their Okpara Avenue, Enugu, Head Office. Representing EERC NG Chairman, the Commissioner of Organizational Support, Dr. Chuka Akunne, officially cut the ribbon to unveil this transformative initiative.

The inauguration of the Forum of Nigerian Electricity Regulators (FONER) marks a significant shift toward a sophisticated, multi-level electricity market under the Electricity Act 2023. By appointing Mr. Chijioke M. Okonkwo, Chairman of the Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC), as Vice Chairman, the forum creates a strategic link between federal oversight and state-level implementation.

The Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission EERC NG has granted a 20-year electricity distribution licence to MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited. This landmark decision marks the first electricity distribution licence issued under Enugu State’s electricity regulatory framework and formally establishes MainPower as the licensed electricity distributor in the state.

It has come to the attention of the Commission that Mainpower Electricity Distribution Company Limited has reverted to charging its Band A customers N209.50/kWh as against the Commission’s Order of 160.40/kWh.

The Enugu State Government, through the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP), GIZ Nigeria & ECOWAS, is extending by one (1) week its invitation to credible and experienced solar mini-grid developers to submit proposals for innovative and feasible mini-grid projects in Enugu State.
