On June 4, 2026, ICEED, in partnership with EERC and supported by the UK FCDO under the PACE programme, hosted a stakeholder workshop in Enugu on electricity pricing and sub-national regulation. The forum focused on tariff reforms, subsidy management, and regulatory roles, while speakers called for cost-reflective pricing, targeted subsidies, stronger oversight, and collaborative reforms to build a reliable and sustainable electricity market.

The inauguration of the Forum of Nigerian Electricity Regulators (FONER) marks a significant shift toward a sophisticated, multi-level electricity market under the Electricity Act 2023. By appointing Mr. Chijioke M. Okonkwo, Chairman of the Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC), as Vice Chairman, the forum creates a strategic link between federal oversight and state-level implementation.

The Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission EERC NG has granted a 20-year electricity distribution licence to MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited. This landmark decision marks the first electricity distribution licence issued under Enugu State’s electricity regulatory framework and formally establishes MainPower as the licensed electricity distributor in the state.

It has come to the attention of the Commission that Mainpower Electricity Distribution Company Limited has reverted to charging its Band A customers N209.50/kWh as against the Commission’s Order of 160.40/kWh.
