The Enugu State Government, with funding support from the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) and implementation by Nextier Advisory, held the Enugu State Electricity Priority Plan (SEPP) Validation Workshop held today the 14th October 2025.

The SEPP serves as a strategic roadmap for Enugu State’s energy future, outlining the institutional, technical, financial, and regulatory actions required to improve electricity access, reliability, and affordability across both urban and rural communities.

The workshop was attended by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, who represented His Excellency, Barr. (Dr.) Peter Mbah, the Executive Governor of Enugu state. In his remarks, he reaffirmed the State Government's commitment to achieving electricity sufficiency within the shortest possible timeline, and to advancing the Sustainability and Reliability Plan. He also emphasised the importance of stakeholder collaboration to drive business viability within the power sector. He highlighted the need to foster competition as a pathway to market efficiency.

Facilitators led sessions on consumer demand and market insights, load demand planning, renewable energy plan and market design for Enugu state, as well as infrastructure challenges such as grid overload, et al.

The plenary featured active engagement, with participants raising questions and offering suggestions. The EERC NG Chairman Chijioke M. Okonkwo encouraged investors to take advantage of Enugu state’s evolving regulatory landscape and explore opportunities across the electricity value chain, including indigenous fuel sources.

We thank all our virtual and physical participants for a great session today. Together, we will achieve electricity access in Enugu State.
